Where You Have Gone My Friend From the Kebab Shop?
I noticed the gates were down for a few months. I just assumed he was away again. He’d had it like that before. But at that time he had taped a hand written sign on the gates saying that he was on vacation. When he’d returned he said he went back home to Pakistan to visit family and friends. I noticed a gold band on his finger that I’d never noticed before. I asked him. He said no he didn’t get married. That it was a just a ring.
Pretty sure that my first meal from my then new neighbourhood was from his shop, Berlin Kebab y Pizzeria. I’d noticed it when I went for a walk. That was back around the end of July 2017 when I’d moved into my new spot. I wanted to ease into my new surroundings and didn’t want to take too many risks in terms of selecting eats. His shop seemed fairly new. He was alone. Not much was inside. I spoke in my pretty basic Spanish. When you can’t speak the language well it’s easy to eat at places with pictures and menus with numbers on them. Menu 2. Kebab, chicken and/or lamb, in a wrap with fries and a can of soda. It was advertised for 5,50 euros. But he always only collected 5 from me. For awhile I thought he was looking out for me but it turned out he did the same for everyone. Unlike other kebab shops he didn’t charge extra for chicken or for the mix. And he seemed to pack them a lot bigger than other spots. They reminded me of…
