That was you (guys!). That’s awesome. Hope you keep doing the work and getting our stories out. Thanks for reading and the comment.
Here’s a bit more from the interview.
Colleges it’s never the Asian groups that invite me. The first one happened last month. UC Berkeley. So I think it was The Korean American Students Association at Berkeley invited me. The two kids who are running it…these two guys are super awesome kids. They pick me up from the airport. And the first thing I say is like, I literally hug them and I’m like thank you so much for inviting and they’re like, What’s going on? They’re like, half my age. I’m 39 years old, I spent my entire life trying to have some validation from the Korean community, the Asian American community and they’re the first one. And I talked about it to the group too. I was so happy to do it. The kid who led the charge to get me there worked on it for two years to raise the money to get me out there. And he was built almost identically to me. Like the way he talked, the things he was into, the way he thought of the world. He was just like the Asians never accepted me. I’ve always been this guy. And he’s like that’s why I’ve been so drawn to you. And I’m like, yeah, there’s another one of me out there. That’s what it is. And so the book is for that kid. The book is for the guys who understand that.
